I have thought about this often over the last couple years. Especially as my hobbies change.
I have wanted a “U” shaped house. The bottom of the U would be the front of the house. I would like an open entry area in a Japanese style where their “genkan” is sunken in and with plenty of storage for shoes, umbrellas, coats, etc.
I would also like a sunken living area probably on one side of the top of the U shape. Nothing else specific there.
On the other side of the U, I would like the master bedroom. I want the bed in the middle of the room with a partial wall dividing the room from the bathroom and closets that would be attached.
Kitchen would be up to my husband because he is the cook in the relationship and has his own requests for what would be included and how it would be formatted.
Somewhere in the house I would like a library. Not sure where yet…maybe to the side of the entryway.
There would be a basement with some secret rooms. One would connect to a place to do some pottery making. Another secret entrance would be to an armory. My husband and I have tried archery and have compound bows and he also used to go hunting, not so much anymore though. We do go to the range every so often so still in the plan.
In the middle of the U, it would be a little garden sanctuary. Surrounding the inner portion of the U would be porches or engawa similar to the traditional Japanese style homes
That’s pretty much all I have thought through for my dream home.
This picture that I have included is a bit modern for my tastes and I would rather not have a pool but it is the closest I could find to what I would like.
