Ink!

Finally, I did something I had wanted to do for quite a while: I purchased some of the supplies back in December 2023. I was motivated to do it because Iroshizuku has 3 new inks joining their lineup and a stationary store I like to visit just posted they have inventory of these new inks. That led me down a rabbit hole and I found out that Iroshizuku will be discontinuing 3 inks from their released inks once stock runs out. I scoured the internet to see if I could find and buy the inks that are being discontinued.

I was able to purchase the Kosumosu, Tsutsuji, and Kiri-same, all of which are being discontinued. I also purchased Fuyu-syogun just because. I hope to get the new inks at some point, but not at the moment.

So, what I did was put my swatches together for my inks. I only have a handful but I have already made the mistake of buying duplicates of inks. Luckily my duplicates are all in the smaller 15mL containers and not the 50mL ones. So now when we travel to stationary stores and look to buy inks, I will know which inks I have and hopefully not buy duplicates on accident.

  • Kosumosu
  • Tsutsuji
  • Yama-budo
  • Murasaki-shikibu
  • Sui-gyoku
  • Ku-jaku
  • Take-sumi

So I stamped all of the swatch pages first to give them time to dry. I still have 2 inks that have yet to arrive and prepared the swatches that I will add the ink to later. After those dried, I used my Pilot Iro-Utusushi dip pen to write out the color and brand. Next, I used my Fonte glass pen to fill in the ink bottle stamp. I tried to use the flatter side to make thicker/heavier lines and twist the pen to make the thinner lines. Finally, I took a cotton swab and shaded the bottom portion of the swatch. I went over the bottom once on the right side and twice on the left side, just to see how the color would change.
